Description
7/21/1920
Perennial Democratic Party candidate for president, William Jennings Bryan, had been unsuccessful in getting the Democratic Party convention meeting in San Francisco to adopt his prohibition plank as part of the 1920 platform. With waning influence in the Democratic Party, Bryan considered running again for President, this time as the Prohibition Party candidate. Cartoonist Clifford Berryman shows the elderly Bryan in a rocking chair on his front porch with a fly swatter in hand. Around his head circles the Prohibition Party bee. Should he swat it or get stung and lead one more charge for the Presidency?
