Description
9/1/1931
James A. Reed was Missouri's favorite son candidate for the 1932 Democratic Presidential nomination. He was a Senator from Missouri from 1911 to 1929. He was not a candidate for renomination in 1928 and he returned to the practice of law. But as Berryman showed, he fostered Presidential aspirations for the 1932 election. Reed considered himself a fit candidate for the presidency. He was vehemently opposed to Prohibition and the League of Nations. He was a conservative politician who did not support legislation to cure social problems through government action. Berryman shows him reading a letter from the "Dr. Examiner" encouraging him to try for the nomination.
